Sandra (Sandy)'s Story
Hi - I am very happy being exactly who I am and doing what I am doing. I am married to the same sweet guy for 38 years. He graduated from Tech '68. He was very popular. WE have one daughter who is an Associated Press newswoman in Atlanta. She is a magnificent person. She really got the best of both us. She will be getting married in Sept. here in Memphis at the Hunt Phelan Home. (Remember that old house on Beale St. where we'd go ghost hunting in high school after we had gone to Voodoo Village?)
My life's work has been with and on behalf of young children. I am currently(since 2000) the Director/Administrator of the Barbara K. Lipman Early Childhood School and Research Institute at the University of Memphis. GO TIGERS!!! What a fun career this has been. I am published in severa...Expand for more
l educational journals and I am certain there is the GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL lurking in my soul!
I am a recovering Southern Baptist and Republican. That means I am no longer of that belief system which is what I was in high school and most of college. I am still opinionated and will always come down on the side of truth, justice and the American Way, make no mistake.
We have chosen to stay in Memphis on purpose and fight the good fight. WE have won some and lost some battles in the areas of children's rights, education and senior adults (my husband's work). We even still live in the Kingsbury hood! Somebody had to stay in the city and keep the taxbase going. I mean, how far east do you have to move in Memphis to find God and safety?
Anyway, I am satisfied with my journey so far....
